In July 2022, inflation accelerated to reach 6.1% in one year. A record since 1985. The increase is felt in the supermarkets, but also facing the bill at the restaurant.

In a restaurant kitchen, inflation creeps into every dish. The gas rose 42.4%dairy products experienced an increase of 8%, and the meat of 8.3%. Cooking has become more expensive for the chef. This piece costs me ten euros more than four, five months ago“, he said, pointing to a rib of beef. So he decided to raise some prices on his card. The map has grown approximately 4% compared to the previous year.

Without this increase, he risks working at a loss. There was no question of lowering the quality, no question of lowering the quantities, because that is the promise vis-à-vis our customers (…). So some prices had to be changed.“, he justifies. Customers are quite understanding. Other professionals refuse to touch the price. A restaurateur thus preferred to remove certain dishes from his menu. Some business leaders cry outalert, because their restaurant could well just close.
