It takes more than a dough and tomato sauce to make a quality pizza. Fortunately at reindeerthe good ones pizzerias do not miss. News Rennes has selected 5 of the best in the Breton capital.

Angelo

It’s hard to talk about pizza without mentioning Yann Dayer and its restaurant Angello. The pizza maker opened his first establishment in Rennes in 2011, on boulevard de Verdun. His work was also rewarded in 2014 with the title of French pizza champion and finished 4th at Parma at the World Championship.

Installed on the Place de Bretagne since 2017, Angello alias Yann Dayer, big name in pizza (at honorary prices), delights the taste buds of gourmets. This modern and relaxed restaurant with 70 seats is above all a family place. Take a seat and savor the artisanal dough, generous, airy and digestible. The recipes are studied and the products chosen with care and quality. All pizzas are available in 26 and 29 cm to avoid waste. Special mention for the Verde Scuro and its spinach chlorophyll base!

Little wily one

Victim of its own success, the restaurant on boulevard de Verdun has become too small to accommodate its customers. In 2017, Yann Dayer ended up moving to Place de Bretagne. A second restaurant has opened on rue des Innocents.

Addresses: 4 place de bretagne (06 74 74 74 89) and 4 rue des Innocents (09 52 68 01 31). Both establishments are open from Tuesday to Saturday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Reservation is recommended.

The tomato

If the pizzeria La Tomate is not very big, it is nonetheless excellent. This pizzeria is a pro for fine pasta. The Tomato has been designated Traveller’s Choice 2021 ” on TripAdvisor and offers vegetarian and vegan choices.

La Tomate is one of the best addresses for those who love pizzas in the northern transalpine style, with a thin crust. Light, large, crispy. A pure delight. For those who love pizzaoil creativity, the favorite goes to this San Remo, in which we savor mozzarella, tomatoes, bacon bits, basil which combine with Roquefort for our greatest pleasure. The most classic variants are of course on the menu with Rennes. And you can savor at La Tomate – paradoxically – white pizzas… without tomato, but with fresh cream, the “bianca”, another transalpine classic. At lunchtime, a very attractive menu is offered with pizza of the day.

Petit Futé’s opinion

Be careful however, as for the pizzeria Angello, it is strongly recommended to book to have a place.

18 rue Saint-Georges. 02 99 87 06 06. Open Monday to Thursday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday to Sunday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. Reservation recommended.

At Geppetto’s

If you are hungry, Geppetto is the perfect address! Their pizzas are well stocked and appreciated by customers. On TripAdvisor, customers are glowing. “Best pizzeria in Rennes both for its quality of cuisine (gourmet and very good) and for its prices (much lower than its competitors). The waiters are very friendly go there with your eyes closed”comments even Nolwenn.

It is in this old building with exposed beams and large fireplaces that Geppetto has taken up residence. Reference to Pinocchio and to Italian culture as a whole if we are to believe the walls on which a multitude of Italian portraits, quotes and poems are written and drawn. A particular charm for this restaurant which has the particularity of serving giant pizzas (they completely overflow the plate) with a thin and richly garnished crust.

Petit Futé’s opinion

The lunch formula is very affordable : only €12.90 (starter and main course or main course and dessert).

Casa Pepe

Very well located in rue Saint Georges, the pizzeria Casa Pépé is an excellent address. And what a choice! 42 pizzas different are shown on the map. There is something for every taste.

What is striking when entering is that there is a crowd in this small restaurant, the conversations are going well and the staff are busy in the four corners of the room, which does not prevent it from being relatively efficient. . On the menu, 42 choices of pizzas! From the traditional Italians that need no introduction (Margharita, Neapolitan… Rennes – for queen, a play on words specific to the city’s pizzerias) to those on the way to becoming classics themselves (la montagnarde), Casa Pepe give free rein to all your fantasies (the ptilou with its gizzards, the Verona with curry, the kebab…). There are even five soufflé recipes.

Petit Futé’s opinion

Again, the reservation is almost mandatory to have the hope of getting a table.

Burnet

This restaurant located rue d’Antrain stands out particularly among the other pizzerias in the city of Rennes. To make his pizzas, the pizza maker uses a organic floura real plus.

If meats, pastas and formulas are also on the menu, the pizzas really deserve our attention. A real delight, this round of pizzas made up of the names of flowers: Narcissus, Lys, Jasmine… We knew the atmosphere and the warm welcome within the walls of the restaurant. It is always present, as is the originality and quality of the pizzas: just a few bites were enough to convince us. We let ourselves be tempted by a Hortensia (tomato, scallops, shrimp and cheese): we enjoyed it. For very affordable prices. A beautiful address! A menu full of delicious surprises! A restaurant that we know among Rennais lovers of good food! In addition, Candy will welcome you with a big smile! Sympathy, good atmosphere, conviviality and good food, what more could you ask for?

Petit Futé’s opinion

“Five of us came from Caen for training, we found a well-located restaurant, with a very welcoming and relaxed couple, it was impeccable”, describes an enthusiastic customer on TripAdvisor. “We were all unanimous on the atmosphere and especially the quality of the products, it had been a long time since I had eaten a pizza that was so good for me: the primrose. »
